You will come out at the Lake, near the Dam, turn left and you’ll reconnect your loop back.įallen Leaf Lake has been a popular retreat for the wealthy, adventurous and artistic. Turn right on the pavement as it winds through the campground and you’ll see Moraine Trail sign on the right and enter this single track that travels along the creek’s edge. Cautiously cross the highway and just behind the sign is a trail post for the single track that takes you Fallen Leaf Lake Campground. Continue on the bike path about ¼ mile with a look out for the brown US Forest Service Visitor Center sign on the other side of the highway. The Taylor Creek Bridge is a great scene during October when the Kokanee salmon in the thousands come to spawn. Exit to Hwy 89 and cross the Hwy to the bike path and turn right. You will come out at Sno Park parking lot. In the fall the Aspen trees are a brilliant golden and yellow. stay to the right on the single track and it serpentines through the forest. Walk your bike across the Taylor Creek dam and turn right on the single track. You’ll ride through the forest, lush meadow, and alongside the Lake – a perfect spot to enter the water or gaze at Mt. Share with hikers on this popular trail near the Lake. ¼ mile further is a small parking area and a single track entrance on the right. Ride up Fallen Leaf Road and you’ll pass the campground entrance. If we’d had more time we could’ve planned a hiking back along Glen Alpine Trail.Predominately a level smooth single track with some short elevation gains and small rocks. Glen Alpine Falls was my favorite out of this short list of stops. Here’s a video of the afternoon jaunt and sites we saw. There are a couple of trails from there that take you deeper into the back country and we saw several backpackers heading out.ĭriving along Fallen Leaf Road was worthwhile and if not crowded would’ve been fun to bring our kayak and actually put it to use in the lake that day. Glen Alpine falls were very loud there were several pools to dip into and the canyon had beautiful rock walls.Īfter gawking at the falls and canyon, we actually walked up the road to the trail head parking area and viewed Lily Lake. As we popped out of the jeep, you could hear the falls. The trail I was headed to was actually at the very end of this road however, with the crowds we parked about 0.5 mile out. Fallen Leaf LakeĪs we got to the south end of the lake, we beared left to the trail. Following our stop there we drove on down the one lane road the one lane road seemed a little crazy with the summer crowds in full swing. After a brief walk we found both an old set of cabins and the lake. I visited Lake Tahoe last year and enjoyed Fallen Leaf Lake area but never ventured beyond the campground. ![]() Using ON X Offroad map, I found a trail at the end of Fallen Leaf Lake and made that one of my targets for this visit. ![]() That gave us time to get the tire repaired (which was quick, successful and free) and take the Jeep up to Lake Tahoe area. We stayed with a Boondocker’s Welcome host for a couple of nights. Our destination after camping near Mammoth Lake, CA was continuing north up to the Carson Valley, NV area.
